What’s hurts the most in this episode is it becomes quite clear Ward thought once Skye finally found out he was Hydra and he explained that despite the fact he played the team his feelings were real she’d stay with him. This is why i think this scene is so important.
Ward’s been physically rejected by Skye the only person, that to be honest i think, he cares about now and what i think is the only people he’s been rejected by who he cared for was his family, his older brother to be precise, and that’s why in this scene when Skye says those words he has a momentary flashback. He remembers it all in one instant, his brother not showing him the love he deserved or thought he deserved or even wanted from him and then he snaps back. Like “No i mustn’t show my weakness, emotion is weakness.” And in a split second we see Ward go from what i feel is the real Ward to the Hydra spy Ward, the Ward who doesn’t let his emotions get the better of him, the Ward who manipulated his whole team into trusting him.
